It can be a thousand more, which only confuses people further by the way.

Every June since 2000 in the U.S., the “LGBT Pride month,” commonly referred to as “Pride month,” celebrates its community. This celebration is now observed around the world, including here in the Philippines.

Based on my observation, I have this question: “Why is it that there are political leaders and schools that support celebrating this movement?”

Upon further observing and reflecting on this movement celebration, I’ve noticed a few important things that most likely led them to decide to support this movement. I think part of it is a political agenda, a compromised logic, a hypocritical education system, and certainly ignorance of and defiance of God’s Word.

A Political Strategy for Politicians

Some politicians who advocate for this celebration, such as former Mayor Honey Lacuña and Isko Moreno Domagoso of Manila, Mayor Jeannie Sandoval of Malabon City, and Mayor Joy Belmonte of Quezon City, are notable examples. Whether they did it with sincerity or to use it to make their names great for future elections, it doesn’t change the fact that it gives them a political advantage.

One pedestrian crosswalk in front of Plaza Raja Sulayman along Roxas Boulevard in Manila (2020) was painted with the Pride rainbow colors, which Domagoso claims as “a token of appreciation for the LGBTQ community for their contribution to society” (pna.gov.ph 2020).

This may be a genuine expression of appreciation to them. Still, I don’t see the necessity to paint the crosswalk with the flag or to hang banners for them unless there is a subtle political agenda to gain support from this community. To give them more recognition is to give them validation for all their principles, actions, and agendas, and I think that’s problematic. Nevertheless, it is a good strategy for garnering more support for the upcoming election. It’s simple and basic.

In the U.S., before the 1992 presidential election, Bill Clinton’s presidential campaign was strategically progressive and gave them an upper hand against his opponent, George H.W. Bush. The result? Bill Clinton won the election. Supporting a progressively growing community during that time (ex., LGBTQ+) and even today will add an advantage to any politician. To contrast the two politicians, G.H.W. Bush opposed allowing gays in the military, supporting the idea that it would affect the morale and discipline of the force, while Bill Clinton made a promise to lift the ban on allowing gays to join the military. In this campaign, Mr. Clinton got the score. Good strategy, was it not?

Another issue was that Mr. Bush opposed the idea of adding sexual orientation because it’s unnecessary and could lead to “special rights,” which I think is very logical. While Mr. Clinton opposed his opponents’ idea of course and supported civil rights protections for LGBTQ+, which implies the tolerance of adding sexual orientation, that’s part of the deal if you want to support their movement. Fast forward to the result of the election. Bill Clinton (Democrat) won the 1992 United States of America presidential election against George H.W. Bush (Republican).

This was also the pattern that put the former U.S. President Barack Obama (Democrat) at a great advantage to win the 2008 presidential election against his opponent, John McCain (Republican). It was Mr. Clinton, in his second term, who issued a Presidential proclamation designating the month of June as “Gay and Lesbian Pride Month” on June 2, 2000. Obama followed Clinton’s ideals and made the month of June “National Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Pride Month” (June 2009), which is now known as “Pride Month” (Prologue.blogs.archives.gov 2026).

Why am I showing this? In our Philippine context, we always imitate American ideals and culture and apply them here, and politics is not exempt. I am not saying that our politicians have ill intentions for supporting the Pride movement, but one thing is clear to me: promoting it puts them at a good political advantage.

No wonder that Mayor Joy Belmonte conducted and spearheaded the graduation rites ceremony specifically for the LGBT+ community. Her speech was this: “Graduation rites are everyone’s rights, regardless of gender identity and expression. In Quezon City, you have the right to express your truth,no matter your sexual orientation, gender identity, and gender expression. Hopefully, in the future, we will no longer need to hold such a ceremony because all schools will be inclusive” (quezoncity.gov.ph).

For me, we don’t need that ceremony, Mayor Joy.

Mayor Belmonte has a twisted understanding of “truth”. I agree that everyone has a right to have a graduation rite; no one should be prohibited from having it, male or female, rich or poor, young or old. But to say that “you have the right to express your truth” is twisted and harmful. It encourages their movement to push their wrong ideas about gender.

One can express their truth by satisfying their sexual cravings through pornography or raping a young boy or girl, no matter what their sex and gender are. But that doesn’t make it right legally and morally. Truth is not relative. Truth is objective and factual. She may be sincere in showing support to them, but from a political point of view, it is a good strategy to win them again for another run, perhaps on a bigger stage in the future election as a senator or more? Who knows.

Well, If you win the people, you will win the position. Whatever their inner intentions, from a political standpoint, this is a chess move to checkmate a political position.

Compromised Logic: A Hypocritical Educational System

From an educational and academic point of view, many schools and universities have been tolerant of their policies, such as diverse pronouns and transgender attire. As an educator, nothing harms the reality of reason and logic more than a denial of and tolerance to an obvious, simple, and most basic objective truth, of a person’s established gender and pronoun from birth. This is purely commonsense, and yet schools and universities are so blinded by fear of being labeled as intolerant and discriminating. But is that the real issue?

I think the reason and logic have now been compromised. Many schools are afraid of the woke crowd. The school system today looks like a clown and a circus.

I was once fooled by a student in my drawing class. He was very feminine, both in vocal tone, gesture, and physique. He dressed like a female. He was also wearing a mask, making it hard for me to know his facial features. Then, when I was doing my regular roll call for class attendance using an index card, and called his name, I was so confused because the name was a male’s name, and yet his picture and appearance seemed to be a female student.

I thought maybe his parents want a male name for their daughter. And then one day, while I’m in a men’s comfort room, he came in and checked himself, put on makeup, and laughed at me, and I told him (whom I thought of as “her”), “What are you doing here, you’re not allowed to be here,” then he laughed again. Then I realized, “Oh, I see.” The male name fits his actual biological gender; he’s not “she” but “he”, not a female but a legitimate male.

Honestly, I am having cognitive confusion as I write this section because of this twisted event. Make sense, right? Even in writing, you cannot confuse pronouns; it’s disorienting to the brain and logic. But many schools are allowing this madness, confusion, and delusion to happen.

Promoting a proper dress code that suits the biological sex and gender of the person is not bullying, particularly in schools, universities, or colleges. To use the pronoun correctly and accurately with respect to both language and good knowledge, personal conviction, and fellow human beings is not discrimination or violence.

So, what is the purpose of basic education if the school system does not apply the simple pronoun and gender distinctions properly? What a waste.

It is a good thing that schools and universities promote anti-bullying and rights of education for LGBTQ+, though both DepEd and Ched stand on this notion, and yes, I get that. In fact, everyone should be protected from bullying and be given equal protection and opportunities to study and earn a good education, not only LGBTQ+.

However, their position is a big contradiction in itself. Both promote basic and higher education, and yet again, violate a very basic truth about gender and sex. I think that the dominant factor now is cultural preference and not basic knowledge.

One article said that gender policing, “is a form of gender-based violence, invoking certain differential characterizations that lead to social harm, bullying, or exclusion, where their rational endpoint highlights no significant benefit, especially in the face of diversity” (outragemag.com).

Basically, this statement prohibits someone from sticking to basic knowledge of gender and sex. If a person addresses a Lesbian as “ate,” or a gay “kuya”, even with honesty, respect, and politeness, that address is a form of bullying that could lead to social harm. This is absurdity in its finest.

Another article suggested that the DepEd “should instruct all public and private schools to permit students to wear uniforms, sport hairstyles, and access facilities consistent with their self-expressed gender identity… and LGBT-inclusive materials into the sexuality education modules that educators use” (hrw.org) to provide protection to the LGBTQ+ community. I believe these suggestions make the schools, universities, colleges, teachers, and students more confused. As a parent and as a college educator and former high school teacher, there’s no more confusing thing to teach students than gender confusion and delusion. I find it alienating to basic knowledge for the sake of the wrong ideology. I’m all in for human rights and equality of opportunity to all people, whatever their gender is. But to be forced to believe and accept a lie concerning gender and sex is alienation and bullying in itself.

Sadly, on many occasions, the very group (LGBT) that desires to be protected is the same group that bullies and labels those people who are just sticking with their objective principles and binary gender expression as old-fashioned, bigoted, sexist, discriminatory, and violent, even in school premises.

For all academic institutions, make no mistake about the difference between confusion and delusion. Confusion is a mental state marked by a lack of clear and orderly thought and behavior. Most institutions today are confused about what to do and where to stand; no wonder there’s no clear position on this matter, and they decide to remain silent, for they do not know where to go.

The other side is delusion, where one believes and behaves erroneously, rooted in wrong belief and false reality in the face of objective truth. Most schools and academic institutions are like this. they stand in delusion.

Lastly, if the universities and schools today cannot determine and apply a simple and basic knowledge on sex and gender based on good and faithful science, I believe they are hypocritical and profit lovers and do not really care for the true knowledge and future of the next generation.

Ignorance and Defiance of God’s Final Word

In all honesty, I don’t see that this problem will be resolved and be better in the future culturally and in our society. It sounds like a pessimistic Christian. No, my friend, that’s reality. The DepEd and CHED cannot solve this gender problem, not even the politicians. Not even me or fellow Christians, and not even you. None of us can solve this sin problem. The only One who can fix this problem is God. Only by His Son Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit, His power and grace through the Word and nothing else.

It is explicit that many people and institutions today are delusional about this “Pride” movement. We cannot control this, and we cannot hinder its expansion. It will continue to expand and deceive the culture, and many will buy what this group sells.

Why? Because the Bible says so, that people will continue to defy what is true and what is right in the sight of God, “Scoffers will come in the last days with scoffing, following their own sinful desires. They will say, ‘Where is the promise of his coming?’” 2 Peter 3:3–4.

So, the support of the government to LGBT, the hypocrisy of many academic institutions, and education departments are deeply rooted in one big problem, rebellion against God’s will and word.

As a Christian, educator, father, husband, and pastor, I want to encourage you to remain in the word of God for clarity on response in this twisted and increasingly twisted world. We need God and His Word to have a clear and correct view of all things. Despite the defiance of this nation to the clear revelation of God, particularly on this sex and gender identity and expression, God has remained God, and He is at work and willing to transform these people by His grace and gospel. There’s hope for these people because God is alive. God has placed His people in different institutions to see the problem and the need to shed light and bring the hope of salvation to all confused, suffering, hurt, and deceived LGBT people.

I have nothing but love for them. God loves them and desires to save them. Paul wrote to the Corinthians, reminding them of the transforming goodness of God, he says, “Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who practice homosexuality, nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. And such were some of you. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God” (1 Corinthians 6:9-11).

This is a powerful reminder to me and to all of us that no LGBT people are beyond salvation and the reach of God’s hand. Paul said that they were LGBT and living that lifestyle of defiance against God’s will before, but through Christ Jesus, they were washed, saved, and redeemed, and by the Spirit of God, they were renewed and now belong to the family of God and to God Himself. If they were bullied, hurt, harmed, and violated in their past, God can heal these people like He healed both you and me.

As a Christian and gospel bearer, I encourage you to always show your love to these LGBT people through praying and telling the truth of the gospel of Jesus in a clear, tender, unapologetic, and Christlike way. Pointing them not to our vain righteousness but to Christ’s perfect righteousness and grace. The answer is not the government or the school and academic policies to save these and to secure them. The answer is Jesus Christ, the great Savior and Lord.

May this be etched in our hearts and look at them in the lens of God’s authoritative Word and grace of God, in Jesus’ name.
