John 17:3

“And this is eternal life, that they know you the only true God and Jesus Christ whom you have sent”.

When we talk about eternity or eternal life, the majority of us think about heaven, a place where God is, and singing angels with trumpets wearing white robes worshiping God. This is also true.

Jesus Christ in His prayer gives us a clear meaning of what eternal life is. To Jesus, eternity or eternal life is not just about heaven or a place of peace and worship to almighty God but it is also about who we are to God and Jesus Christ and who God is to us (saints), it’s about knowing the God more and Jesus Christ on earth for the saints.

Eternal life is not given when we get to heaven. Eternal life is given when we are in Christ Jesus even while we are still on earth.

In other words, experiencing God in Christ is experiencing eternal life as well.

When we have Christ, we have eternity. Jesus prayed for us as His disciples to know God the Father better, deeper, and have greater intimacy with Him in Spirit and through the Son.

Eternity is beyond a certain place or location but more of an experience with the holy and living God. It is true that heaven is our destination as a believer, but let’s go beyond that, we lavishly reflect on the person of Jesus Christ instead of a place. For heaven is not heaven without God and the presence of the beauty of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Christ is the center of heaven, and His face is the object of our adoration and worship. With these, we can experience heaven on earth despite difficulties in life.
