Psalm 1:3
“And he will be like a tree firmly planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in its season and its leaf does not wither; and in whatever he does, he prospers.”
A man who delights in Yahweh is compared to a strong tree and a fruitful tree that does not lack support from his maker. The psalmist is showing us the result of being connected to the source of life and strength which is Yahweh.
A tree will never be strong enough without having a connection to the streams of water by its roots or the tree will die. A tree will not be healthy enough to yield its fruits without the help of streams of water. The tree will dry up which results in withering and eventually will die.
But if this tree is deeply and strongly connected to the streams of water, the fruitfulness and stability of this tree are evident and will be beautiful in the sight of many.
Similar to our Christian walk. Only those people who are deeply rooted in God’s word will be able to experience the fruits of the Holy Spirit, spiritual satisfaction, and blessings in the LORD.
A tree will indeed encounter different levels of storms and raging winds that will challenge its strength and rootedness. Those tests will reveal if the tree has a solid foundation or not. That is the same with us as followers of Christ.
Life is tough. Trials and discomfort will always come. But only those who are deeply planted in the word of Christ and those who trust His grace will not be shaken. Instead, they will stand strong amidst trials, remain fruitful, and give glory to the LORD in whatever he does. This is us in Christ Jesus.
Are you planted deeply in the LORD or not? Are you withering? Well, it’s not that we are strong enough to stand still, but because God is good to strengthen us to be able to stand firmly in this crooked world.
Be rooted in His word and you will encounter God’s presence.
