Proverbs 2:1-5

“…Then you will discern the fear of the LORD and discover the knowledge of God.”

Since wisdom is available, what other ways to find and get hold of it? This wise father is telling his son how to get the wisdom of God. I can feel the intimate concern of the father for his son. This means that having God’s wisdom is so important in life like oxygen and water for us to live.

No wonder there is a sense of zeal in this passage because the father knows that wisdom is gold and not easily found. There is counterfeit wisdom. True wisdom and understanding can be found by attentiveness to it, inclining our hearts to it, crying to have it, shouting for it, and striving to get it as if it is a precious silver and hidden treasure (vv.2-4). In other words, I must put my whole being, my mind, heart, body, and soul to have it.

If I really want wisdom I have to search for wisdom. I must act and not only desire it. My whole being must be involved in seeking God’s wisdom. This will reflect in my decisions, priorities, plans, and choices that I will make.

By God’s mercy, this passage says, “then you will discern the fear of the LORD and discover the knowledge of God” which means, in the LORD and from the LORD I have wisdom. God is the object of our wisdom, God is the source of wisdom, and God is the means for knowing wisdom.

As I seek wisdom, my actions and direction must be pointed to God alone so that God will grant me wisdom that honors His name. And that is how we find wisdom.

Are you seeking wisdom in the right way? How do you seek wisdom? Is God your object, means, and source?
