Proverbs 3:7-8

“Do not be wise in your own eyes; Fear Yahweh and turn away from evil. It will be healing to your body and refreshment to your bones.”

The world teaches us to be wise in our own eyes. No wonder oftentimes we thought that our decisions, opinions, and actions are flawless and inerrant as if they will not be able to fail. When you watch sports like basketball, football, or any combat sport you will notice that majority of the players and competitors boast of themselves. They trash talk, they think and believe they are invincible, they mock other players and when they lose, they become silent realizing what they know and think of themselves are not true but at the same time folly in the eyes of God.

This is the same about life, we think we are wise enough to no longer believe and trust Yahweh. We think we are strong enough to no longer seek God’s strength and guidance. It reflects our family and relationship as well.

This kind of mindset and condition of our hearts leads us to destruction. Drowning ourselves in the sin of pride and ignorance.

The best counterattack to this dangerous consequence is written in verse 7, “fear Yahweh and turn away from evil.” This is the key to a wise and fulfilling life in the LORD. To “fear Yahweh” is to give Him what is due to Him such as “worship”, “honor”, “reverence”, “respect”, and “love”. To “turn away from evil” is to “reject” and to say a big “NO” (over my dead body) to any form of sin whether in thought, words, or deeds. Anything that God dislikes, we must deny it.

As our LORD promise to us through His word when we obey it, we will receive “healing to your body and refreshment to your bones” (v.8). It simply having comfort and peace of our mind and heart that can affect our bodies. When we peace, it affects our bodies and actions.

When we are selfish and proud, it harms us. But when we live our life according to God’s word, it heals us.

You must choose. God or yourself?

Choose the wisest way to live your life.

Choose life! Choose Yahweh! Choose Christ! Amen!
