Proverbs 4:10-13

“Hear, my son, and accept my sayings and the years of your life will be many. I have directed you in the way of wisdom; I have led you in upright paths. When you walk, your steps will not be impeded; and if you run, you will not stumble. Take hold of instruction; do not let go. Guard her, for she is your life.”

Countless stories in the world prove that the lack of wisdom makes a man’s life short and problematic. Listening to wise and experienced old people and even not-so-old people gives us plenty of advantages because we can see pictures of successes and failures so that we can choose better before we act in our life.

I remember a story about a father and son in high school. The father warned his son to stay away from women who are already in a relationship, but this son never listened to his father. Then one day, this stubborn son found himself in the emergency clinic treating his blackeye and being stitched for having a cut over his right eyebrow. All because of doing the wrong things. Illegal drugs will shorten our life, and any vices and any forms of sins shortens our life.

After all, our life is shortened because of sin is it not? It is only by God’s grace and the mercy of Christ that we can have eternal life, meaningful life, and life to the fullest both in the world and in heaven.

The message is so clear and simple, wisdom is absolutely needed in everyday life. The Bible never fails of reminding and teaching us that wisdom must be sought after and must be asked from God.

The LORD is using different people, their experiences, the news, events, and many more to say to us that we need His wisdom. No wonder why some people live long enough than most people. Because some of these people are wise enough where to use their life and energy.

Though it does not mean that short life means not having wisdom. Some people lived a short life, but it was a meaningful one, while others have a longer life but a non-sense one.

The point is that wisdom helps us to have a long life and meaningful life that can be an inspiration to many people and gives glory to God our LORD in Christ Jesus.

Hence, to stay in the right place and on the right path, we must acquire wisdom. God is our wisdom, His word is our wisdom, Jesus Christ is the wisdom and life, and the Holy Spirit is the wisdom that dwells in us forever. Who is your wisdom? Where do you think you can find this wisdom?
